Daily Grab Bag
Check back here for daily updates on injuries, closer battles, player news, and anything else that might affect your fantasy baseball team.
- Contrary to initial reports, it sounds like Lance Berkman did NOT tear his ACL. He’s still not out of the woods yet as the Cardinals are doing additional tests, but he will miss at least the next six-to-eight weeks with a right knee injury. Matt Adams is looking like a great long-term option right about now.
- Sean Burnett grabbed a two-out save after Henry Rodriguez allowed two baserunners. Rodriguez seems to have the confidence of manager, Davey Johnson, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Burnett get the next save opportunity.
- Cody Ross has been placed on the 15-day DL with a foot fracture, and will likely miss at least 6-8 weeks for the already depleted Red Sox.
- Recently deposed Reds closer, Sean Marshall, got the one-out save for Cincinnati last night after Jose Arredondo failed to close the door on the Braves in the ninth. Aroldis Chapman was unavailable due to a rest day, but he was also arrested yesterday for speeding. Chapman will likely be the closer going forward, but this is definitely a situation to keep an eye on as Arredondo and Marshall may still see save opportunities.
- Neftali Feliz was placed on the 15-day DL with a right elbow strain. The Rangers will see how Feliz responds to four weeks without picking up a baseball, but it looks like the young righty will be out until at least the All-Star break.
- Trout/Harper Watch: With two of baseball’s best prospects being called-up recently, I’m going to dedicate this space to keeping tabs on the youngsters for the near future. Here’s to hoping that you were able to grab one (or both)!
Bryce Harper: Harper went 2-4 with one run and one steal yesterday. (.256, 15 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 Steals on the season).
Mike Trout: Trout went 1-4 with one RBI yesterday. (.350, 15 Runs, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 6 Steals on the season).
