Daily Grab Bag
Check back here for daily updates on injuries, closer battles, player news, and anything else that might affect your fantasy baseball team.
- C.C. Sabathia was placed on the 15-day DL today with a muscle strain in his adductor muscle near his left left. He’s expected to miss two starts and then return after the All-Star break.
- Colby Lewis was placed on the 15-day DL yesterday with forearm tightness and is expected to be available after the All-Star break.
- Ryan Braun will be out of the lineup today with soreness in his left elbow after being hit by a pitch last night. The Brewers have an off-day tomorrow, so let’s cross our fingers that he’s fine by Friday’s game.
- Jacoby Ellsbury (shoulder) is on-track to begin a rehab assignment Friday that would have a 20-game limit. As long as he doesn’t experience any setbacks, this would put Ellsbury back in the Red Sox’ lineup (and fantasy owners’ lineups) by mid-July.
- Josh Beckett (shoulder) is set to come off the disabled list and start against the Mariners this Saturday. I’ve seen Beckett on way too many waiver wires recently, so make sure he’s not sitting on yours.
- John Axford (who has been struggling all year) and Francisco Rodriguez switched roles last night with Axford pitching the eighth (and taking the loss). Axford was only put in the game because he had started warming up when the Brewers were down 3-0 (they then tied it), but any fantasy owners in need of saves should be scooping up K-Rod.
- Trout/Harper/Rizzo Watch: With two of baseball’s best prospects being called-up last month, I’m going to dedicate this space to keeping tabs on the youngsters for the near future. Here’s to hoping that you were able to grab one (or both)! (UPDATE: Anthony Rizzo is the latest uber prospect to get the call to the Majors, so I’ve added him to the list as well)
Bryce Harper: Harper went 1-5 yesterday. (.278, 32 R, 7 HR, 20 RBI, 7 steals on the season).
Mike Trout: Trout went 1-5 with one run yesterday. (.335, 44 Runs, 7 HR, 29 RBI, 21 steals on the season).
Anthony Rizzo: Harper went 2-4 with one RBI yesterday. (.500, 1 RBI on the season).
